What is Yoga For Runners?

In my opinion, yoga and running is the perfect combination. Yoga will help you to run your next race faster, with a healthier body and mind.

I understand that yoga has a bad rap. I run a yoga company. A mobile studio. A pop-up at breweries. It’s always had a bad rap. It’s had the negative association of LA athleisure, yoga mats at brunch, all of the stuff I do and more.

The problem is… yoga is great. That’s why I run a yoga company, but while I run a yoga company, my primary activity as a human is running. I am a runner. I am also a USATF-certified running coach. Maybe I know what I’m talking about here. Or I have at least thought about it a lot.

Yoga is just stretching? Sure. If you’re a runner, you won’t be scared of stretching. But if it’s just stretching, try to stretch yourself into crow pose. Stretch yourself into a headstand. Ah. I think you’ll find that you need a whole load of strength for that. Not just in your abdominal core but in your shoulders, your hips, and so on.

So now we’ve maybe established that yoga requires a lot of strength as well as flexibility to stretch.

Is there a runner on the planet so skeptical of yoga that they will say that strength is not necessary to run? Maybe, but they aren’t still reading. They quit already.

Yoga For Runners is not for quitters. Yoga For Runners is designed for people who want to further themselves. It’s designed for people who care about their bodies and how they recover. People who want to be in the best possible physical shape for their next run, whether it’s a neighborhood jog, a social club run or their next big race.

Yoga For Runners is also designed for people of every single pace. Performance and improvement is not reserved for 3hr marathoners. Here’s the spiel. If you’re still with me on this, you’ll understand the rest with ease and I hope you join me around Los Angeles as we share information and techniques.

Whether you run a 6-minute mile or a 26-minute mile, you want to be faster with a healthier body. Yoga can and will help you achieve that goal.

A USATF-certified running coach (me, Raz) will guide you through a pre-run warm-up, in-race mindfulness and breathwork techniques, and post-run yoga poses that will help you achieve the flexibility and strength you need.

LEARN MORE ABOUT YOGA FOR RUNNERS EVENTS

Each class focuses on essential features such as form, flexibility, strength and breathing.

Come to one or come to every one. While this is the best run-yoga workshop in Los Angeles, the ultimate goal is for you - the student - to take new knowledge away with you to be a better runner for the rest of your life.

Even if you learn one thing, it’s worthwhile. Imagine that takes off 1 second off your mile pace. That’s 6 seconds off your 10k time. Imagine you learn 10 things per year. That’s a whole minute off your 10k as a very conservative estimate.

That’s my coaching philosophy. Incremental improvement. Let’s do it!

ZERO yoga or running experience is required to take part in these customized workshops. All you need is the desire to be a better version of yourself.
